Again, SSD fills up very quickly on any type of computer with low storage capacity. Are you thinking to find a solution? Okay, know more about various effective ways to free up storage on a Windows PC in this post.

Disk cleanup

There is a built-in tool for disk cleanup in the Windows operating system. Easily you can get help from it to delete temporary files and other unnecessary data. To use this tool, right-click on any drive and select the Properties option. Then click on the Disk Cleanup option. Select the files you want to delete, and click OK. Here you can select temporary files, log files, recycle bin files and other unnecessary files which can be selected and deleted very easily.

In addition to the mentioned methods, you can use the tool by searching directly by typing Disk Cleanup.

You can clean up hidden system files using the same tool. Click on Clean Up system files then delete system files which you want. Then click on the More options button and click on the Clean Up button below System Restore. This deletes all system restore points except recently created system restore points.

Uninstall unnecessary apps

Sometimes we install some software and apps which are not required actually. Even we install some apps mistakenly.  But you know these apps and software take the valuable storage of your PC hard drive.

So you can uninstall the unnecessary apps and software from the Programs and Features option in the Control Panel. There you can check how much space an app occupies.

Analysis disk space

You can find out how space is being used on your hard drive through the Hard Disk Analysis program. Running these types of programs you can scan your hard disk to check which files and folders occupy how much space. Then you can easily delete unnecessary files from the hard disk and free up the space. For your note, WinDirStat is one of the nice tools for disk space analysis. And it’s free to use.

Clean up the temporary files

After a certain period of use, windows stores some temporary files which kill your disk space unwantedly. The above-mentioned Disk Clean Up tool can’t handle it to clear. It doesn’t display the temporary files. But you need to clean them regularly.

For example, you can clear the browser’s cache data like Chrome or Firefox, which occupies a lot of storage. If your computer has limited storage at all and the issue is bothering you, you can use a third-party cleaning tool like CCleaner. It displays all the temporary files even which are not displayed in Windows Disk Cleanup. So you can clean them easily using the CCleaner tool.

Search for duplicate files

You can scan your computer’s hard drive for duplicate files using any duplicate file finder application. You do not need any duplicate files, right? These are unnecessary. So you can delete them to free up your disk space. Use the ViciPics tool to delete duplicate images. To delete duplicate files on your computer, you can use AllDup tools.  Both are free-to-use tools.

System restore storage

System restore points on Windows computers occupy a lot of storage. Reducing allocated space can reduce the storage usage of system restore points. However, if you reduce this storage, you will get fewer system restore points. If this doesn’t seem like a problem to you, you can empty your storage by reducing the space allocated for system restoration.

Open Run by pressing the Windows key and R key and type system.cpl and press Enter. You will see the System Properties tab. Then click on the System Protection tab and click on the Configure option. You can reduce or increase the space allocated for system restore points by increasing or decreasing the slider below Disk Space Usage. Save the settings by clicking Apply at the end of the work.
